The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the EU, in the sixth package of sanctions against Moscow, is preparing to cut off additional Russian banks from SWIFT.
It is reported by the Washington Post.
Borrell reportedly did not specify which Russian banks would be targeted by sanctions.
He also reiterated promises to reduce the EU’s dependence on Russian energy imports. Since the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the EU has imported about $46 billion worth of Russian fossil fuels.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the EU has already disconnected Russian banks Otkritie, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, Bank of Russia, Sovcombank, VTB and VEB.RF from SWIFT.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the EU came close to approving the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. The restrictions will also affect Belarus, which has actually been at war against Ukraine since the first days of the Russian invasion.
