The US Congress will consider a resolution that could set a clear red line for Russia.
Republican Senator Adam Kinzinger introduced a resolution to the US Congress that provides for the use of the US Armed Forces to protect Ukraine. The resolution provides for permission to use military force in response to scenarios in which Russia uses chemical, biological or nuclear weapons.
“Having spoken to Secretary Blinken and listened to his serious concerns about Putin’s use of chemical weapons, I am confident that the United States will demonstrate to the international community that we will not tolerate senseless violence. My staff and I look forward to meeting with Secretary Blinken to ensure Russia’s involvement accountable for any and all violations of international law.I introduce this AUMF (Authorization for Use of Military Force, “Permission to use military force” – UNIAN) as a clear red line so that the administration can take appropriate action if Russia uses chemical, biological or nuclear weapons.
We must stand up for humanity, and we must stand together with our allies. As the President of the United States said, Putin must be stopped. Accordingly, the commander-in-chief of the world’s largest Armed Forces must have the authority and means to take the necessary actions for this,” the explanatory note to the draft says.
Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk called on the Germans to follow the example of the United States and open lend-lease for Ukraine. On April 28, the US House of Representatives approved Lend-Lease for Ukraine.
