“Anger, disappointment, a heavy feeling of loss of human lives”: American congressmen visited the site of the tragedy in Odessa

Members of the US Congress Victoria Spartz and Tim Wahlberg, who are now in Odessa, today visited the Tiras residential complex, which was shelled by Russian invaders on Easter Friday. They were accompanied by the Executive Director of the UN World Food Program David Beasley.

They saw with their own eyes the tragic results of the Russian missile attack, met with the residents of the damaged house, talked with the head of the Odessa military administration Maxim Marchenko and the mayor Gennady Trukhanov, police officers and public utilities who continue emergency work at the site of the tragedy.

Tim Wahlberg said that he is experiencing mixed feelings: anger, disappointment, a heavy feeling of loss of human lives: “We mourn for them. Grandmother, mother and baby, a grieving husband who does not know how to take this… I pray that the heart of Ukraine and its people that we felt here will be strong and determined to win this war. A war started by an aggressor who personifies evil and only evil.”

“I am sad to see how war brings suffering to women and children. This is not a war against the military. They kill peaceful, innocent people, it’s more like genocide. But I see how strong the Ukrainians are, how they pass this test, because they have a spirit. I am very proud of the Ukrainians. I was born in Ukraine, it gives me strength of mind”, said Victoria Spartz.

Victoria Spartz (Kulgeiko) was born in the Chernihiv region, grew up in Ukraine, studied at the Kiev National Economic University. After moving to the United States, she made a career as an economist, and then a politician. Victoria is the first Ukrainian-born member of Congress to represent the state of Indiana.

After the outbreak of a large-scale war, she came to Ukraine several times to visit relatives who live in Kyiv. In the US Congress, along with other members of the Republican Party, Victoria Spartz advocates for large-scale assistance to Ukraine, which has now become the front line of the struggle for freedom and democracy in the world.

Tim Wahlberg received a spiritual education, would have been a pastor for ten years, after which he took up political and social activities. He is a member of the Republican Party, in the Michigan State Legislature, and in the US Congress is engaged in issues of social protection of people.
