The Netherlands will give up Russian gas by the end of the year

Netherlands

By the end of this year, the Netherlands will completely abandon the purchase of Russian gas and Russian coal.

This was announced by the Minister of Climate and Energy of the Netherlands Rob Jetten, reports European Truth .

It is noted that for the next winter gas storage facilities will be filled as much as possible. To a large extent, this should be done by energy and other companies. Since they do not dare to take financial risks, because gas is now very expensive, the government will come up with a scheme that partially compensates for the difference in price.

The state-owned company Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) will fill the Bergermeer gas storage facility with 70% of its capacity. The total cost depends on the price of gas and is estimated at 623 million euros.

More imports of liquefied natural gas are also expected. It is stored at the gas terminals in Rotterdam and Eemshafen. Energy saving should also help replace imports from Russia.

As for coal, imports for the entire European Union will end on August 11. This was agreed in the fifth package of EU sanctions in connection with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The phasing out of Russian oil purchases still needs to be organized in the EU context.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany could not give up Russian energy , including gas, as it would severely damage its economy and help stop the war in Ukraine. Джерело: https://biz.censor.net/n3336099
