In the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region (certain districts of the Donetsk region), the invaders forcibly “mobilize” cultural figures, university students and their teachers.
This was reported on the official website of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova.
According to the report, a total of 55 musicians were forcibly sent to the line of contact as “volunteers” without minimal military training. Information has now appeared on social networks about the death of a famous pianist of the Donetsk Philharmonic and the Septet Jazz ensemble in the battle near Mariupol.
It is noted that students of universities, technical schools and their teachers, even of pre-retirement age, also fell under the mobilization.
As Denisova notes, forced mobilization in the territories occupied by the Russian Federation is a violation of Article 51 of the Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Population in Time of War. Thus, the document strictly prohibits the occupying state from forcing protected persons, that is, those who are in the power of a party to the conflict or the occupying state, of which they are not citizens, to serve in its armed or auxiliary forces.
The Commissioner appeals to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of war crimes and human rights violations of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
First, the enemy dropped bombs on military facilities, and then attacked civilians, in particular, residents of Kyiv, Kharkov, Chernigov, Mariupol, Kherson, Zhytomyr, Odessa, Nikolaev and Sumy.
On April 15, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that a plan for forced “mobilization” had been thwarted in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions .
