Russia on Tuesday sent an official diplomatic note to the United States warning that the supply of weapons systems to Ukraine “adds fuel” to the conflict and could lead to “unpredictable consequences.”

The document, entitled “On Russia’s Concern over Massive Supplies of Arms and Military Equipment to the Kiev Regime,” was sent to the State Department by the Russian Embassy in Washington. 

“We call on the United States and its allies to stop the irresponsible militarization of Ukraine, which entails unpredictable consequences for regional and international security,” the note says.

The diplomatic note was sent after President Joe Biden approved Ukraine’s arms expansion .

“What the Russians are telling us privately is what we have been telling the world publicly – that the massive amount of aid we are providing to our Ukrainian partners is proving to be extremely effective,” a US presidential administration official said.

Experts have suggested that Russia is preparing to attack the convoys with weapons. “They targeted supply depots in Ukraine proper, where some of these stocks were stored. The real question is whether they will go beyond trying to aim weapons at Ukrainian territory, whether they will try to hit the supply convoys themselves and possibly NATO countries on the border of Ukraine , which are transit points for the supply,” said George Beebe, former director of Russia analysis at the CIA.

If the Russian army “stumbles” in the next phase of the war, Beebe said, the risk that Russia will target NATO supplies will increase significantly.
