Boris Johnson said the UK and its allies should continue to strengthen sanctions against Vladimir Putin “until every single one of his troops is out of Ukraine”.

The Prime Minister was grilled at length about Britain’s support for Ukraine as he appeared in front of the powerful Liaison Committee this afternoon.

Tom Tugendhat, the Tory chairman of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, asked Mr Johnson at what stage he believes sanctions could start to be lifted on Russia.

Mr Johnson replied: “I certainly don’t think that you could expect the G7 to lift sanctions simply because there has been a ceasefire in Ukraine and that, again, goes straight into Putin’s playbook.

“In my view we should continue to intensify sanctions with a rolling programme until every single one of his troops is out of Ukraine.”

Asked if that would include Crimea, the PM said: “As I said, every single one of his troops is out of Ukraine.”

Good answer Boris. I know it’s not saying much, but Boris is now Ukraine’s leading supporter.

    • Cannot disagree. Crimea’s fate must be decided through a ‘fair’ referendum. But RuSSia has already been fucked. Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine may build a new block. Once Serbia rid itself of a pro-RuSSia government they may join in as well. Add Greece and Georgia to that!

    • Yes, Boris is showing the rest of Western Europe what courage is. The UK is again the leader of the continent. Forget the pussies of krautland and frogland.
