CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on Gulf countries snubbing Biden: We are entering a post-American era

Counter-protesters set fire to a U.S. National flag during a gathering of the far-right group  as they hold a protest in Boston, Massachusetts, Oct. 18, 2020.

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria said Sunday that America was losing its hold on the world’s stage, emphasizing that the signs were “everywhere.”

“One of the defining features of the new era is that it is post-American. By that I mean that the Pax Americana of the past three decades is over,” the “Fareed Zakaria GPS” host said.

Zakaria pointed to UAE and Saudi Arabia officials’ unwillingness to accept a phone call from President Biden as evidence of American decline.

“You can see the signs everywhere,” he said. “Consider that according to The Wall Street Journal the leaders of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, two countries that have depended on Washington for their security for decades, refuse to even take phone calls from the American president.”

Zakaria pointed to the Biden administration’s inability to lead a joint response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine as further evidence of American decline.

“Consider as well that Israel initially in the Security Council vote and India have refused to describe Putin’s actions as an invasion and that all four countries have made it clear they will continue to do business with Russia,” Zakaria said.

Zakaria also argued that an increasingly armed Europe can be beneficial to the United States.

“At first glance, it might seem that this is a new global order stacked against America, but that is not necessarily so. The U.S. remains the world’s leading power, still stronger than all the rest by far,” he said.

“The greatest strategic opportunity lies with Europe, which could use this challenge to stop being the passive international actor it has been for decades. We now see signs that the Europeans are ready to end the era of free security by raising defense spending and securing NATO’s eastern border,” he said. “If Europe becomes a strategic player on the world stage, that could be the biggest geopolitical shift to emerge from this war. A United States joined by a focused and unified Europe would be a super alliance in support of liberal values.”

  1. Electing Biden as POTUS was a deplorable, bad, Godawful mistake of the American people. He will go down as the worst in our entire history.

    • Bolton say Putin was waiting for Trump to pull out of NATO. Which Trump would probably have done by now.
Even if trump responded strongly to putin’s invasion Trump would never have gotten the support for the economy wrecking sanctions Bidne and Europe have put to gether.
Given the Fan Girl gushing Trump has shown so far I doubt he would have said Boo about it.
I jhonestly don’t understand how anyonw who is Por Ukraine would ever support Trump.
Waht ever his faults (and they are many) Biden is no fan of Putin.

      • There is no indication that Trump wanted the US out of NATO. He did castigate the countries that weren’t living up to their obligations. Germany was a pretty egregious offender in that regard.

Putin did not restart the invasion of Ukraine under Trump because he told ad Vlad the results would be most unpleasant for the Kremlin. So Putin waited until the demented idiot in the White House and tested him to see what might happen. His fraudulency failed the test and Ukraine is suffering the consequences.

      • When I rant about Biden’s cowardice and weakness, I do not have the Trumpet in mind. I would want someone like Ronald Reagan as president.

      • Thus far, Trump has done WAY more than either Biden or Obama. WAY more. Besides the javelins he also exported energy which really hurt Putin. Yeah he SAID some stupid stuff but he kept sanctions (Biden cancelled some) and added more. Trump also said he spoke with the Kremlin zits dozens of times and always told him, “Don’t do it! Don’t do it!” So it appears Vladolf complained about Ukraine a lot of Trump BUT DID NOTHING. You can believe what a person says or what they do Sir Murf, its up to you.

  2. We entered a post American regime with Obama. The current regime is just carrying out the same policy.

They say they are afraid to start WW3, but that started back in 2014, and they are simply too cowardly to stand up to the progenitor of it.
