The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has launched an investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This is stated in a statement by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan.

He stated that he had received a request from 39 countries about the situation in Ukraine, which allowed him to launch an investigation into the situation in Ukraine between 21 November 2013, covering any past or current allegations of war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide. committed in any part of Ukraine by any person.

“I informed the ISS leadership of the decision to immediately launch an active investigation into the situation. Our work on gathering evidence has begun,” Khan said.

He recalled that, as stated in his statement on February 28, a preliminary analysis of the situation in Ukraine showed that crimes within the jurisdiction of the ICC could have been committed in Ukraine.

Khan promised to conduct an objective and independent investigation.
