‘Starlink service is now active in Ukraine,’ Elon Musk says. Satellites could keep Ukraine online if its internet infrastructure is damaged by Russia’s attacks.
SpaceX founder Elon Musk has activated Starlink, his commercial internet network, in Ukraine, with “more terminals en route,” the billionaire said.
Musk’s SpaceX has thousands of Starlink satellites in orbit, which allow the company to beam broadband services around Earth, without the need for fiber-optic cables. The satellites could keep Ukraine online if its internet infrastructure is damaged by Russia’s attacks.
Musk’s move came in response to a plea by Ukraine’s First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, who called for help on Saturday, as Ukraine fought off an invasion and sustained cyberattacks by Russian forces.
Tweeting directly at Musk, Fedorov said: “While you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand.”
In response, Musk said: “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route.”
Thank you Mr. Musk! Like Mike says, tonight everyone is Ukrainian!
Indeed , the entire civilized world is pissed off. Can you believe that the government controlled liquor control board in Ontario Canada has ordered all Russian vodka to be pulled off the shelves ?
Putin is sure making it popular to be Ukrainian, they might relabel the bottles as Ukrainian 😉
Putin didn’t expect this much unity. Could this be Putin’s Waterloo?

I am glad that the internet in Ukraine is still functioning. Being so far away, it is very important to stay in constant contact with my fiancé in Kyiv and others there that I know. It would be terrible if the internet were to go down, as I suspected would be the case soon after a major attack.
At this point, I would say thank you, Mr. Musk. It is nice to know that even if Ukraine’s network were not functioning anymore, we have Stalink as a backup.
No one knows how to access it. If you find any info, please let me know. Urgent.
I’m so busy at the moment, communicating and writing, answering questions, researching and so on. I’m being totally overwhelmed at the moment. I’ve had very little sleep in the past four days. But, I will stay on top of it, Scradge.
Usually if its active you can just search for it with your phone and it will come up on your wifi list. They probably need an account from the Star Link website too. Or they can ask a neighbor.
Thanks for the info, Red. Do you know how I can post pictures and videos on here? It never seems to work, no matter how I try it!
Uuugh. I fail sometimes too. You might try to paste into a comment on UAWire and then copy that format and paste it in here.
Hmmm … you mean place an image or video on Disqus and then take it from there and put it on here?
Yeah. You can drop a photo in the comments section and it will show the code in the comments box. Then you can copy that and paste it into comments here. I believe it works with videos too. It gets a little tricky sometimes when you’re pulling stuff from other websites because their formats can change too.
Thanks, Red, I’ll try it
