The Dutch government has decided to send 200 Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine “as soon as possible”.
This is stated in a joint letter to the Parliament of the Foreign and Defense Ministers, which got into the media, reports “European Truth”.
The RTL edition , in particular, cites a document signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, Wopke Hoekstra and Kaisa Ollongren, which says that officials were able to avoid the standard and lengthy approval procedure. “For this request, a thorough review of the arms export criteria was carried out, but the procedure was shortened given the exceptional circumstances,” the letter said.
Among other things, the Netherlands will donate 200 American-made Stinger missiles, which are in service with the Dutch army, to the needs of the Ukrainian army.
Stinger Stingers are ground-to-air missiles for launching from portable air defense systems, with infrared guidance. Her military task is to shoot down enemy helicopters and planes. The missiles are 1.5 meters long and weigh more than 16 kilograms at a supersonic speed of 2,400 kilometers per hour, and are effective for hitting targets within a radius of 0.5 meters to 5 kilometers. As you know, air defense systems are very important for shooting down Russian helicopters and planes carrying out combat missions to shell Ukrainian targets and transport manpower of the Russian occupying army.
