The Russian government approved the agreement on sending Belarusian troops to Syria

The Russian government approved a draft of an indefinite agreement with Belarus on the deployment of a Belarusian military contingent of up to 200 people in Syria. The document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

As noted in the draft agreement, the Belarusian contingent will participate in humanitarian activities outside the combat zone, it will be deployed at the location of the Russian aviation group – at the Khmeimim air base.

The tasks and composition of the Belarusian group will be approved by the Belarusian authorities, having coordinated their decision with Russia. The military will be subordinate to the Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, but remain under the command of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus.

Russia “free of charge” will provide the Belarusian military with food, transport, uniforms, technical and material means, weapons, military equipment and ammunition, as well as train them and organize their evacuation from Syria in case of a life threat.
