If necessary, the American company Westinghouse will be able to fuel all 13 WWER-1000 units at Ukrainian nuclear power plants within two years.

Currently, seven of them use fuel from Westinghouse, and six – fuel from Russia.

This was stated by the head of NNEGC “Energoatom” Petro Kotin. Current.ly, Ukrainian nuclear power plants have enough fuel, there are reserves for the next 2-2.5 years, he said.

“If we talk about 13 of our WWER-1000 power units, seven of them are already supplied with Westinghouse fuel, and six – by the Russian side. Now we have fuel, I would say, for 2-2.5 years, given what is already in the reactors. The agreement with the American company stipulates that if necessary, it will increase its production within two years and close all our needs, ”Kotin said.

The head of Energoatom noted that the American company will need about two years to expand production and train personnel.

It will be recalled that there are 4 nuclear power plants in Ukraine (Zaporizhzhya, Rivne, Khmelnytsky, South-Ukrainian) with 15 power units. Most reactors are of the WWER-1000 type. Only at Rivne NPP there are two power units with WWER-440 reactors. They are also considering the possibility of supplying American fuel.

It should be noted that recently, for the first time in the history of Ukraine, all 15 power units of tired power plants were put into operation, as we wrote earlier.
