Pope Francis declares January 26th a day of prayer for peace
The Pope called for a world day of prayer for Ukraine in connection with the aggravation of the situation around it. It is reported by Vatican News.
“I am following with concern the growing tension that threatens to deliver a new blow to the peace in Ukraine and violates security throughout the European continent. Therefore, with concern, given the existing tension, I propose that next Wednesday, January 26, be day of prayers for peace,” Francis said.
Pope Francis noted that he first of all appeals to all people of good will to offer prayers to God so that every political action and initiative would serve more the common human brotherhood, and not private interests.
“The one who pursues his own goals, harming others, despises his own vocation of man, for we are all created brothers and sisters,” the Pope said.
Earlier, Pope Francis called for reducing tensions around Ukraine through international dialogue.
Pope Francis in his Christmas Urbi et Orbi message called for preventing “metastases” of the conflict from spreading in Ukraine.
Pretty powerful words for Putin to digest considering he claims to lead a Christian nation. Christian nations do not go to war with each other.
