The Telegraph: Nazarbayev’s youngest daughter withdrew $ 300 million from Kazakhstan by buying a house in London and a private jet with them

Aliya Nazarbayeva, the youngest daughter of the former president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, withdrew more than $ 300 million from the country and spent part of this money on buying real estate abroad. This was reported by the British edition of The Telegraph. His article, which is available through a paid subscription, was retold by The Daily Mail tabloid.

The details of Aliya Nazarbayeva’s financial situation became known due to her conflict with two former financial managers. The daughter of the ex-president of Kazakhstan sued them in a British court, accusing them of fraud and misappropriation of funds. She demanded from them 165 million pounds (16.8 billion rubles). The claim was settled by agreement of the parties.

Aliya Nazarbayeva told one of the financial managers that in 2006 she received about $ 325 million from the sale of her stakes in a certain business. $ 312 million was withdrawn from Kazakhstan, because Aliya Nazarbayeva found it dangerous for her to keep funds at home, writes The Daily Telegraph, citing court documents.

Later, Nazarbayev’s daughter made a number of major purchases. In particular, she bought a house in London for 8.75 million pounds (892 million Russian rubles at the current exchange rate) in order to obtain a residence permit in the UK. She also bought real estate in Dubai for 14 million dollars (1.05 billion rubles) and a Bombardier Challenger aircraft for 18 million pounds (1.83 billion rubles).

In 2019, the property of the eldest daughter of the ex-President of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva and her son Nurali Aliyev were arrested in London . The property was valued at over $ 100 million. British law enforcement officials said it was bought with the criminal proceeds of  Rakhat Aliyev , former spouse of Dariga Nazarbayeva. But the court found it unproven and removed the arrest from the assets.

In 2020, the British edition of The Times reported that earlier Dariga Nazarbayeva and Nurali Aliyev also owned a house at 221b Baker Street. This is the fictional address of the detective Sherlock Holmes, the hero of the novels of the British writer Arthur Conan Doyle.

In 2022, protests began in Kazakhstan over an increase in fuel prices. One of the protesters’ slogans was “Shal, ket!” Which translates as “Old man, go away!”. It is believed to have been directed against Nazarbayev, who has retained significant powers after leaving his post as President of Kazakhstan. In the country, he and his family were accused , among other things, of corruption.

Amid protests, the country’s current president, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, removed Nazarbayev from his most important post, the chairman of the Kazakhstan Security Council. There were rumors that Nazarbayev and his family members might have left the country. But the representative of the ex-president said that he remained in Kazakhstan and  voluntarily resigned from himself the powers of the head of the Security Council.

  1. It’s time the UK laws were changed to stop this money laundering. It’s no wonder the UK are so weak when it comes to dealing with Russians, they can see the dollars disappearing over the horizon.
