The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was a mistake from a geopolitical point of view.

As reported by Deutsche Welle, this opinion was expressed by the Vice-Chancellor of Germany, Federal Minister of Economy and Climate Protection Robert Habeck in an interview with the newspaper FAZ, excerpts from which the German media quoted on Saturday, December 18.

“All European countries, except Germany and Austria, have always been against it. And now the gas pipeline has been built. But the question of whether it will be put into operation remains open. This issue should be resolved from the standpoint of European and national law,” Gabek said in response. to the question whether the transition to renewable energy sources will lead to dependence on Russian gas and the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

The politician recalled that, according to the current laws, different structures should own the network and the company that operates it.

“A policy aimed at maintaining competition is a policy. It does not allow the creation of monopolies and, at the same time, dependencies,” stressed the Deputy Prime Minister of Germany, adding that the German regulator – the Federal Network Agency – will check the compliance of all documents on Nord Stream 2 “the law and will decide on the possibility of starting its operation.

Recalling the threat of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, Gabek stressed that “any further aggression should not remain without harsh consequences.” “There can be no taboo topics for reflection,” the minister said, without mentioning, however, Nord Stream 2 directly.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 A. G on December 17 announced the start of filling the second string of the pipeline with natural gas .

According to the International Monetary Fund, the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could reduce Ukraine’s gas transit revenues by 40% to $ 1.2 billion d a year until 2024, while the current transit contract with Gazprom is in effect .

Help UNIAN. The Nord Stream 2 project provides for the construction and operation of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The gas pipeline bypasses Ukraine.

On September 10, Russia announced the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.

  1. Nord Stream II was indeed a mistake. It wasn’t Merkel’s only one, though. That fat Stasi cow made countless mistakes, also pertaining to Ukraine and mafia land. Let us hope that Germanystan now has a government with a little more intelligence and no Ruskie ass-kissing.
