Russia wants to discuss “security guarantees” of Ukraine’s non-NATO membership only with the United States

The Russian authorities want exclusively bilateral negotiations with the United States on “security guarantees” that Ukraine and other post-Soviet states will not join NATO.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov announced this in a comment to TASS .

Moscow believes that other formats allegedly will not make sense.

“We propose negotiations on a bilateral basis with the United States. If we attract other countries from them, we will simply drown it all in debate and verbiage,” said Lavrov’s deputy.

There has never been such a situation as in relations with the United States, Ryabkov stressed.

“I hope that the Americans do not underestimate how much everything has changed – and not for the better. And so far, unfortunately, there are no signs that they are ready to abandon their own patterns,” the Russian said.

What preceded

On Friday, December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website published a list of the Kremlin’s demands regarding Washington and the Alliance, which spoke, in particular, about guarantees of non-deployment of military bases on the territories of post-Soviet countries, including Ukraine’s non-NATO membership. In addition, Moscow is demanding that the Alliance refuse to provide military reinforcements to its Eastern European allies.

In turn, the press secretary of the White House Jen Psaki assured that the United States will not make any decisions without Europe.

Vladimir Putin considers Ukraine’s membership in NATO a “red line” . In December, commenting on the data on the movement of Russian troops, the head of the Kremlin said that he would demand from the Alliance guarantees that Ukraine would not enter.

Biden, in talks with Putin on December 7, refused to abide by the “red lines” established by the Kremlin regarding Ukraine’s possible membership in the military alliance.

NATO Secretary General Jens  Stoltenberg, in turn, confirmed that Russia does not have the right to veto Ukraine’s membership in NATO. However, on December 9, he invited Russian representatives to meet at a meeting of the NATO-RF Council against the background of the accumulation of Russian troops in Ukraine, which was negatively perceived by the countries of the eastern flank of the Alliance.

In Ukraine, they are convinced that the non-aligned nature of Ukraine will in no way diminish Putin’s “appetite” . President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the North Atlantic future of Ukraine is decided by its people , not Russia.

Western intelligence confirms suspicious movements of Russian troops along the border with Ukraine. Intelligence suggests that the Russian Federation will try to invade the country again this winter.

  1. The Nato “security guarantees” are just another swerve from the putinazis. What the kremlin murder gang really wants is Ukraine fully integrated into RF territory and ruled by the nazi rodent. What it would settle for would be the stans model or the Belarus model: ie a piss-ass dictator running the place like a concentration camp and “paying tribute” to the king rat.
Neither are acceptable. So, once again, nothing to negotiate. At least, not until the putinazis have admitted responsibility for all their war crimes, paid full compensation and permanently and irrevocably left all of the sovereign territory they illegally occupy.

  2. I hope that the Biden administration won’t throw Ukraine under the bus again! There is nothing to negotiate. There is, however, action to be taken, i.e. increasing arms shipments to Ukraine NOW and slamming the crime syndicate with crippling sanctions.

    • Bidenov already promised Zelensky that any decisions about Ukraine will involve Ukraine. Period. That only makes sense anyway. SOMEONE has to support the idea that Ukraine is an independent country. Vladolf is trying to throw a wrench in the spokes already.

  3. Poor Ruskies think the US can make decisions for other countries. It doesn’t work like that in democracies, this is not mafia land where Putler speaks for all his slaves like Luka.
