Russian language will become compulsory for study in CAR universities

From 2022, Russian will become compulsory for study at the universities of the Central African Republic. Such a directive, according to Corbeau News Centrafrique , was signed by President Faustin-Archange Touadera.

The initiative to study the Russian language is part of a plan for cooperation between the two countries, Agence Ecofin notes . The universities are already developing appropriate training programs. Now French, Spanish and Chinese languages ​​are being studied at CAR universities.

According to local media reports, a meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Central African Republic and the Russian Federation is scheduled in early 2022 in Moscow, where the topic of teaching the Russian language and sending teachers from Russia will be discussed.

The Russian language was studied in the Central African Republic during the time of Jean Bedel Bokassa, who ruled in 1966-1979, notes RBC. The next time the Russian language returned to the school curriculum in 2019 against the backdrop of the resumption of cooperation between Moscow and Bangui.

In 2018, Russia and the CAR signed an agreement on military cooperation. Russian military instructors were sent to the country, who, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, are contributing to a peaceful settlement and are preparing the army of the republic, where the civil war continues. According to media reports, we are talking about mercenaries from the Wagner PMC associated with the pro-Kremlin businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin.
