“Orthodox oligarch” Novinsky told why he made a deposit for Trukhanov: “We have a long history of friendship”

People’s Deputy Vadim Novinsky made a 30 million bail for the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov, because they have an “ancient history of friendship.”

He stated this to ” Ukrainian Truth “.

Vadim Novinsky

“It was I who posted the bail. When the decision on the measure of restraint was announced in court, I called by phone and offered Gennady Leonidovich my services. He didn’t refuse. Since 2014, I have always tried to help in situations and cases in which it seems to me that there are admixtures of political persecution … With Trukhanov we have a long history of friendship, we were together back in the 7th Rada. Therefore, my motivation is only friendly, ”said the oligarch.

According to Novinsky, he has no business interests in Odessa. He also added that he also helped Mikhail Chechetov and Elena Lukash in such matters.

Recall that Trukhanov, along with other 15 persons involved,  including his former business partner Vladimir Galanternik (being wanted), are suspected of creating a criminal organization that actually controlled the city government and acted in several directions: transfer of land for construction to related developers; illegal privatization; embezzlement of budget funds. All suspects deny their guilt.

The mayor was appointed a preventive measure in the form of a cash bond in the amount of 30 million 213 thousand 300 hryvnias. The Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court upheld this decision. Today it became known that the mayor did not contribute the mentioned amount, and now the SAP must submit a new petition and demand a tougher measure of restraint.

Vadim Novinsky is a prominent businessman and pro-Russian politician, a zealous adherent of the Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. He received Ukrainian citizenship in 2012, before that he was a Russian (and quite possibly remains so to this day). For the first time he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions, now he represents the half-dead “Opposition Bloc”, remaining non-factional. His Smart Holding owns 25% of shares in Metinvest, the richest man in Ukraine, Rinat Akhmetov.
