The new ruling coalition in Germany demands from Russia to immediately end the war in Donbass and return the illegally annexed Crimea to Ukraine. At the same time, she advocates close cooperation with Moscow.

This is stated in the text of the coalition agreement, informs Spiegel .

The new German authorities are ready for a constructive dialogue with Russia, but they also respect the interests of partners in Eastern Europe.

“We demand an immediate end to attempts to destabilize Ukraine, violence in eastern Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea. The path to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the lifting of retaliatory sanctions depends on the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. We are in favor of resolving frozen conflicts in the region,” agreement.

The coalition declared a desire to work closely with Moscow on energy issues and global issues, but criticized the restrictions on civil and democratic freedoms in Russia.

The agreement declares the intention to launch visa-free travel between Germany and Russia for young people under 25.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the name of the new chancellor was announced in Germany today. It was the Social Democrat  Olaf Scholz.

The three parties that made it to the Bundestag agreed to create a ruling coalition. It included the Greens and the Free Democratic Party, along with the Social Democrats.

Angela Merkel, after leaving her post, no longer plans to engage in politics.

On October 26, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier handed Chancellor Angela Merkel a  notice of the end of her term.

  • If true, this is excellent news for Ukraine, or at least some grounds for cautious optimism. I know nothing of the FDP, other than it is pro-business and centrist. The SPD is a putinoid party and the Greens don’t like putler.
The new coalition uses the words “we demand”, instead of the meaningless “we call on.” This is an improvement.
If they have sincere intentions, they will cancel NS2. So let’s see.

    • Yes that would be among the low hanging fruit for them to cancel Putin’s new geopolitical weapon. Now that these new leaders are introduced Putin will open up his wallet though so we will see if they can maintain their backbones.

You can’t have it both ways. Sanctioning the crap out of Muscovy will guarantee no cooperation with the mafia state.
