The first of seven ships with coal from the United States and Colombia arrived in Ukraine .
This was reported by the press service of the DTEK energy holding , which contracted the corresponding volumes of fuel.
It is noted that a Panamax-class vessel has docked at the Yuzhny port and is intended for the needs of the state-owned thermal power plants (TPP) Centrenergo. The volume of the first delivery is 60.5 thousand tons.
According to the company, DTEK has agreed with international suppliers to import 7 shiploads of coal into Ukraine. We are talking about 5 shipments from the USA and 2 from Colombia. The volume of each ship consignment is from 40 to 75 thousand tons. The total volume of contractual supplies provided to cover the needs of Ukrainian thermal power plants is almost 470 thousand tons.
All shiploads are expected to arrive in Ukraine during November 2021 – January 2022. The next installments are expected at the end of November, December 4 and January 1. All of them are intended for the needs of DTEK Energo TPP.
According to the press service, in addition to ship supplies, the company imports coal from Poland. In August, DTEK Energo signed two agreements for the supply of a total of 340 thousand tons of thermal coal from Poland.
As UNIAN reported earlier, from November 1, the Russian Federation stopped the export of thermal coal to Ukraine . In addition, the Russian Federation has blocked coal supplies to Ukraine from Kazakhstan .
On November 3, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that it was planned to pass the winter period at the expense of domestic nuclear energy . He also noted that the government is coordinating the purchase of coal, and the Ministry of Energy will intensify its own production. According to the Ministry of Energy, Ukraine has contracts for the supply of coal from Poland, Kazakhstan and the Republic of South Africa.
Rinat Akhmetov’s DTEK company chartered 7 ships with coal to supply Ukrainian thermal power plants with fuel in the autumn-winter period. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, this coal will completely cover the needs of the energy industry by the end of the year.
