German regulator BNetzA allowed Ukraine to certify the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline . This decision will allow the procedure to be carried out more transparently.
This was stated by the head of Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko on Facebook.
“We are ready to provide our arguments why Nord Stream AG cannot be certified without its full compliance with European energy legislation. It is BNetzA that will finally decide whether the Nord Stream 2 pipeline will be put into operation and under what conditions. We are ready to provide our legal position regulator in the near future. It is based on the fact that Nord Stream 2 cannot be certified without its full compliance with European laws, “Vitrenko said.
At the same time, he pointed out that the dominant position of Gazprom at the launch of the pipeline poses a threat to competition in the markets of Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria and other countries. In addition, he recalled that according to European laws, the Nord Stream 2 regulator should be completely separated from Gazprom and third parties gained access to the pipeline along the entire length of the pipeline.
In addition to Naftogaz, the Ukrainian GTS Operator will take part in the certification of Nord Stream 2. According to Sergei Makogon, the German regulator emphasized that the GTS Operator is assigned a separate role as a company that has unique expertise in gas transportation.
“We have strong arguments, both technical and political, that should put an end to Russian speculations on the European gas market. We are trying to prevent Ukraine’s energy isolation,” said the head of the GTS Operator.
At the same time, he pointed out that the Russian gas pipeline poses not only an energy, but also a common threat to Ukraine and the EU.
Gazprom does not just look at the gas market as a theater of military operations, certification of Nord Stream 2 will give the green light for more active real special operations, “Makogon summed up.
Let us remind you that the adviser to the US Secretary of State Amos Hochstein believes that Russia is approaching the situation of using gas as a weapon. Hochstein noted that the Russian Federation should supply gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, if it is ready to supply it through the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
On October 26, the German Ministry of Economy, following an analysis, announced that certification of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline would not threaten gas supplies to the European Union.
Earlier, Sergei Makogon, General Director of GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC, said that the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, which was built bypassing Ukraine, does not create any additional value for Europe.
