Ukrzaliznytsia will transfer passenger transportation to the management of the German company Deutsche Bahn DB Engineering & Consulting.
This was announced today, November 9, by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov during the forum “Large construction: a new railway”. According to him, such cooperation will be implemented already in 2022.
“According to the plan, we will transfer passenger transportation to the management of Deutsche Bahn Consulting from next year … let me remind you that Deutsche Bahn has such an experience in Kazakhstan, and it is quite successful,” said Alexander Kubrakov.
To date, it has not been reported how many foreign leaders will arrive in Ukraine.
It should be noted that the companies are currently implementing the first phase of joint cooperation – the provision of consulting services. The agreement on consulting in the field of passenger transportation JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” and German consultants entered into on August 24 this year.
Let us remind you that this is not the first experience of attracting foreign specialists to the management of Ukrzaliznytsia. From April 2016 to August 2017, the company was headed by Wojciech Balczun. He completely renewed the board of directors of the state monopoly, where his compatriots began to work. According to information from reliable sources, five years ago, according to the contract, his salary was 462 thousand UAH / month plus bonuses for work. Today, the salary of a member of the board of “Ukrzaliznytsia” without bonuses is about 340 thousand UAH / month. There is no information yet about the terms of contracts and salaries of analysts.
At the same time, the society puts forward claims to the top of Ukrzaliznytsia for their disproportionate salaries and the lack of positive changes in the work of the railway.
As of October 2021, the deterioration of Ukrzaliznytsia’s car fleet is about 89%, which is a direct threat to traffic safety. In 2020, 30% of rail accidents were caused by the poor condition of the rolling stock. Last year, 813 traffic accidents were registered in which 212 people died and 40 were injured. Of these – 479 accidents with rolling stock, of which 126 accidents – as a result of derailment of rolling stock.
In addition, passengers often complain about the quality of rail transport. In particular, on September 29, city council deputies appealed to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine to solve transport problems in Mariupol. The document voiced proposals to the management of Ukrzaliznytsia both regarding the improvement of the city’s railway communication and the quality of passenger traffic.
