U.S. Indicts Analyst Behind Trump-Russia Dossier

A Russian analyst who gathered information for the so-called Steele dossier alleging potential ties between Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia has been charged with lying to U.S. federal investigators.

A grand jury indictment unsealed in a federal court in Virginia on November 4 charged Igor Danchenko with five counts of false statements when he was questioned by FBI agents about the dossier, which turned out to be Democratic-funded opposition research.

Danchenko, who lives in the United States and previously worked for the Brookings Institution think tank in Washington, was set to appear in court later in the day.

The case was brought as part of an investigation led by Special Counsel John Durham, who was appointed by Trump to probe the origins of the FBI’s probe into ties between Russia and his 2016 presidential campaign.

Danchenko was the primary researcher for Christopher Steele, a former British spy who prepared the dossier for Fusion GPS, which was working for a law firm that represented the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Some of the research Danchenko compiled was provided to the FBI and used to receive surveillance warrants targeting a former Trump campaign aide.

The dossier is filled with rumors, third-hand sourcing, and unproven assertions that Trump himself was compromised and his campaign conspired with Russian intelligence to undermine Clinton’s presidential bid.

Over time, the FBI investigated the dossier’s claims but was unable to confirm or corroborate most of its allegations, according to the indictment.

Danchenko has previously suggested that the information he offered to Steele was not meant to be portrayed as indisputable fact, and that he was not responsible for how Steele made the information public.

“Even raw intelligence from credible sources, I take it with a grain of salt,” Danchenko told The New York Times last year. “Who knows, what if it’s not particularly accurate? Is it just a rumor or is there more to it?”

Danchenko, who previously wrote a report indicating that Russian President Vladimir Putin plagiarized his dissertation, has repeatedly denied suggestions that he was a Russian agent.

An investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller ultimately found Russia meddled in the 2016 election, but did not find sufficient evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

  1. This guy isn’t the target of course. He was just a Russian being a Russian. This directly implicates Hillary Clinton and I think she is a little nervous now. As I’ve been saying for 4 years, this was all projection from Hillary Rotten Clinton. I could have saved them a lot of time :))

    • The Clintons are crooks of course and capable of almost anything. Why haven’t the Feds investigated the statistically impossible number of people that crossed the Clintons who ended up dead in mysterious circumstances?
It may well be that Trump got elected simply because Hillary was such an unappetizing and unpleasant candidate.
However, the fact remains that the putler murder gang DID do everything it could to get Trump elected and the Trump campaign DID have extensive links with the putler regime.
      Proof is in this doc:

      • And everyone knows if Putler tried to influence the campaign most Americans would vote against his intentions, thus voting for Hillary. Putler knows this too. Not much different than bin Ladin endorsing John Kerry.

        • The doc, produced jointly by the CIA and the Feds, proves conclusively that putler did do everything possible to secure a Trump victory and that there were indeed extensive links with the Trump campaign The only thing in doubt is whether the efforts of his spooks, media trolls and agents of influence succeeded, or whether she was so terrible that some Dems declined to vote. The US intelligence community is aware that Trump has been a Russian asset since the 1980’s, when he started visiting there with his Czech wife.
The final report came out in August 2020. The Hill quoted :
“The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday released its long-awaited Russia interference report detailing significant contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow during the 2016 election.”
The Trump campaign and Russia had extensive contacts:
“The fifth and final volume, just shy of 1,000 pages, lays out the counterintelligence threats and vulnerabilities that were exposed through Russian contacts and a willingness by some members of the Trump campaign to accept foreign assistance.”

Unfortunately it looks like the GOP will put Trump up again in 2024. A Trump-Kamala contest can only go one way : Trump. While from the UK perspective this is desirable, I’m not at all sure it will go too well for Ukraine. The Cruz/Rubio wing of the GOP will continue to try to stand up for Ukraine’s interests and will be pushed back by the Trump wing, which will continue to be unfeasibly accommodating with the tiny poisoner.

  2. “A grand jury indictment unsealed in a federal court in Virginia on November 4 charged Igor Danchenko with five counts of false statements when he was questioned by FBI agents about the dossier, which turned out to be Democratic-funded opposition research.”
I hope that the American voters will remember this despicable affair during the next elections. The Democrats have shown time again what lying filth they are and what they are capable of doing when it comes to getting/maintaining power. I also hope that this will bring with it more sanctions against mafia land and more weapons for Ukraine.

    • You’re right Sir Facts and thus far it has been gloriously bipartisan. I don’t see anyone jumping forward to protect corrupt Hillary so I hope this subject remains bipartisan. Trump was no more a supporter of Russian than Hillary for sure and I hope this sad episode is the end of it, like you said. Keep our eye on the ball, Vladimir Put-In.
