“Unjust and unlawful”. Invaders in Russia and Crimea are outraged by the decision on the Scythian gold

The ” head” of the Crimea occupied by Russia, Sergei Aksenov, called the decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal on the return of Scythian gold to Ukraine “unjust and unlawful” .

“ In essence, this is a fig leaf covering an insolent raider takeover. Scythian gold was found in the Crimean land, where it lay for many hundreds of years, these values are an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of Crimea, the property of all Crimeans, they must be returned to the funds of Crimean museums, ” he wrote in his Telegram.

The deputy head of the working group on international legal issues at the ” permanent representation of Crimea” under the President of the Russian Federation, Alexander Molokhov, said that he expects that the decision on Scythian gold will be appealed, Interfax reports .

After the occupation of Crimea by Russia, the Dutch authorities faced the question of who should return the exhibits that were stored on the peninsula and temporarily exhibited in one of the museums in Amsterdam.

In December 2016, the city’s district court already ordered the return of Scythian gold to Ukraine, but in 2017, Crimean museums appealed against this decision.

The proceedings in this case lasted seven years.

The Scythian Gold Case: Briefly

In 2016, the Amsterdam District Court ruled to return Scythian gold to Ukraine. The subject of the dispute was a collection of 565 items provided to the Amsterdam Archaeological Museum by Allard Pearson for the exhibition Crimea – the golden island in the Black Sea .

The exhibition was held in 2014 and ended after the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. According to Ukrainian legislation, such objects are part of the museum fund of Ukraine and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine must decide where the exhibits will be returned.

In this regard, in August 2017, the museums of the occupied Crimea filed an appeal against the decision to return the valuables.

In July 2019, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal postponed the final decision on this case, and finally it was made in favor of Ukraine.

    • Aksionov is a failed politician and murderous gangster known as ‘goblin’ in the criminal underworld from which he comes. Which of course qualifies him perfectly to serve as an underboss of the putler murder gang.
To misquote Alec Baldwin (talking about someone else): “he deserves to die and be buried with nazis.”

But we all know the gold would end up just like the priceless religious artifacts and icons in Crimea…on some Moskali oligarch’s fireplace mantel in Moscow NOT with the Crimeans.
