Several waste processing plants are being built in Ukraine
There is currently no waste recycling plant in Ukraine, but several such plants are already under construction. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Roman Abramovsky told journalists about this, the National Industrial Portal reports with reference to Ukrinform .
He said that one “large energy company” is ready to build plants for mechanical and biological waste processing on closed power units. However, the minister refused to name this “unexpected national investor”.
At the same time, he noted that many foreign investors are ready to work in this area.
“There are West-West investors. Our neighbors are Poland and Slovakia. There are multinational companies that specialize in this area, this is their main activity – waste management. And they are interested in entering Ukraine. Of course, they are more interested in big cities, but there are companies that are ready to invest in the construction of waste processing plants in Western Ukraine – it’s Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Uzhgorod, Lutsk, “- said the official.
He clarified that the country’s first powerful garbage recycling plant is already under construction in Lviv. It is being built at the expense of the city – after the tragedy at the Hrybovytsia landfill, local authorities were forced to solve this problem radically. The plant is expected to be built within two years. However, according to the Minister, one plant will not be enough for such a big city.
In addition, in the Zhytomyr region, a national investor is building a powerful waste processing plant. A similar project is being launched jointly with a French company near Mariupol. An enterprise is also being built in the Kharkiv region, albeit with a simplified technology, which, however, is suitable for the city.
“In Kyiv, as soon as the conditions are right, there will be a crazy investment competition – who will build a processing plant. It would be right to build several mechanical and biological processing plants around Kyiv. It is possible that there will be a waste incineration plant, ”Abramovsky shared his plans.
