Russia tried to disrupt the discussion of Crimea and Donbass at the UN General Assembly – Nikiforov
The presidential press secretary Sergei Nikiforov said that the Russian delegation to the UN tried to disrupt the discussion of the situation in the occupied Crimea and Donbass during the session, but to no avail. He spoke about this at a briefing, reports Suspilne .
According to Nikiforov, during an important vote for the agenda of the 76th General Assembly, Russia tried to remove an item that dealt with the situation in eastern Ukraine and Crimea, but it failed – 71 countries voted against.
Among the countries that opposed were the Maldives. Foreign Minister of this country Abdullah Shahid is the president of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, and President Volodymyr Zelensky intends to meet with him.
“ I think the president will thank him for his support, they will talk about how at this UN session they will be able to support the Crimean platform, since the Crimean platform and its final declaration are based on international law and on many previous UN General Assembly resolutions on Crimea, on territorial integrity Ukraine, on violations of international law by Russia, “- said the press secretary of Zelensky.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the opening of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 21. According to the NV source, the speech of the head of state is scheduled for late Wednesday evening.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the President’s goal at the General Assembly session is “to further consolidate support for peace for Ukraine.”
According to Zelensky, the UN General Assembly is one of the platforms where Ukraine can protest against the occupation of Crimea and Donbass and demand ” appropriate action.”
