The App Store crashed in Russia. It is only available with a VPN

The owners of Apple devices from Russia reported a malfunction in the App Store, according to vc.ru.

They cannot download and update applications through the networks of some operators, including Rostelecom, Megafon, Yota and MTS. Users note that access to the App Store is only possible through a VPN.

In the first hours after the problems appeared on the Apple website,  it was reported that the App Store was working as usual, then a note appeared on the site about the failure of the application store.

On September 3, Roskomnadzor  blocked  six VPN services, including NordVPN and ExpressVPN. After that , the World of Tanks and World of WarShips games, the Twitch and FlashScore streaming services, the Avito announcement site, and the BitTorrent torrent client crashed.

In recent weeks, Roskomnadzor has been blocking the Navalny application in Russia, created by the team of politician Alexei Navalny, as well as the site of the Smart Voting project . Roskomnadzor threatened Apple and Google with administrative and criminal liability for refusing to remove the application from their stores. On September 6, the department began to block the project’s website with the help of equipment created to isolate the Runet. The service also demanded that Apple, Google, Cloudflare and Cisco do not provide the Smart Voting application and website with the ability to bypass blocking in Russia.

On September 8, according to IT experts, Roskomnadzor began testing the blocking of public DNS services Google and Cloudflare using equipment to isolate the Russian Internet.
