Trukhanov spoke about the successful reform of school nutrition in Odessa
Odessa is the first city in Ukraine to introduce gluten-free breakfasts for students in grades 1-4.
The regional forum “Reform of the school nutrition system” took place in Odessa with the participation of Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Shkarlet and Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko. The forum was attended by more than 700 participants – representatives of five regions: Odessa, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kirovohrad. The regional forum is held on the initiative of Olena Zelenska, who greeted the forum participants online.
Welcoming the audience, Mayor Gennady Trukhanov stressed that in Odessa, great attention has been paid to creating appropriate conditions in educational institutions over the past six years. The city authorities have started work on reforming school meals from the most important – food units, in particular, repair and equipping with new equipment. And to improve the quality of food for young residents of Odessa in Odessa, a working group was created of teachers, doctors, nutritionists, restaurateurs, caring people who deal with this issue.
“The results we have today are really impressive. I want to note that I was in Odessa in July. Everything is possible! By uniting the efforts of all responsible people, everything works out,” said Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet.
“As the mayor, I am proud that Odessa is the first city in Ukraine to introduce gluten-free breakfasts for students in grades 1-4. We have also increased food expenditures in the city budget from 10 to 17.50, and then to 23.50 UAH per day per student. More than half of the food units of the city’s educational institutions have been repaired and equipped with new equipment. Yes, these are significant financial costs, but we understand that we are doing the right and useful thing, “said Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
During the visit to Odessa, the ministers also visited the city’s public utilities, including the Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity “White Acacia”. Spacious assembly hall, vocal and choreographic studios, drawing and modeling classes – all this made a great impression on the guests. After all, “White Acacia” is the first children’s and youth center of this level built from the foundation during the years of Independence of Ukraine. The palace was built as part of the project of the President of Ukraine “Large Construction”.
“Impressive emotions. I’m just delighted! We really need to promote the whole country,” said Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet.
Improving the quality of medical services is one of the city government’s priorities. Thus, on September 6, a new admission and diagnostic department was opened in the city clinical hospital №10. The high level of organization in accordance with international requirements for emergency inpatient care was assessed by the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko.
“The hospital is built to the highest standards. I think that conditions have been created here to motivate medical workers to come to work with joy. I think that, without exaggeration, the lives of many Odessans will be saved here,” said Health Minister Viktor Lyashko. Overhaul and expansion of the reception office was carried out within the program of the President of Ukraine “Large Construction”.
The mayor noted that Odessa is ready to share its experience with other cities of Ukraine.
