Operator of Nord Stream 2 announced the completion of the second string
The last section of the pipe was laid at the bottom of the Baltic Sea during the construction of the second string of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This was announced by the project operator Nord Stream 2 AG, Interfax reports.
Nord Stream 2 AG, as quoted by RIA Novosti, is going to put Nord Stream 2 into operation by the end of 2021.
Nord Stream 2 runs along the bottom of the Baltic Sea from the Russian Ust-Luga to the German Greifswald. The gas pipeline’s capacity is 55 billion cubic meters of fuel per year. The same amount of gas per year can be transported through the previously built Nord Stream 1.
The United States imposed sanctions on Nord Stream 2, which forced the Swiss contractor to abandon pipe-laying and Gazprom had to finish building the pipeline.
