The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine links the decision of the Russian Federation not to extend the mandate of the OSCE mission on the Ukrainian-Russian border at the Gukovo and Donetsk checkpoints with plans to continue supplying weapons to the occupied Donbass.
According to a statement on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on September 2, at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council, Russia voted by the Russian President not to support the broad consensus within the OSCE on extending the mandate of the OSCE observer mission at Russian Gukovo and Donetsk border crossings. after September 30, 2021.
“We consider this decision of the Russian Federation as evidence of its plans to continue and increase the supply of weapons, military equipment, ammunition, regular troops and mercenaries to the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which could lead to further escalation in the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.” stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The agency added that Ukraine strongly condemns this destructive position of Russia and considers it in the context of other actions of Moscow aimed at blocking progress in international political and diplomatic efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.
At the same time, the statement reaffirms Ukraine’s readiness to work closely with the Swedish OSCE Chairman-in-Office, the participating States and the OSCE Secretary General to develop and implement joint steps, including the use of all available OSCE instruments and mechanisms, to prevent and minimize negative consequences. the destructive initiative of the Russian Federation put forward directly before large-scale military exercises “West 2021”.
“Ukraine demands that the Russian Federation immediately cease destructive actions against the OSCE observation mission, fulfill all its commitments under the Minsk agreements in order to de-escalate the security situation and further resolve the armed conflict by political and diplomatic means,” the statement said.
