Jesus Was the First Communist, Russian Party Leader Says

The world’s first communist was none other than Jesus Christ, the head of Russia’s Communist Party has said.

“Put Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and the Moral Code of the Builder of Communism next to each other, and you will just gasp,” Gennady Zyuganov said Thursday in a radio interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid.

He added that “the main slogan of communism — ‘He who does not work shall not eat’ — is written in the Apostle Paul’s Second Epistle to the Thessalonians” found in the New Testament.

“We need to study the Bible,” Zyuganov concluded.

His comments come as the Communist Party of Russia seeks to win seats in the State Duma, Russia’s lower house of parliament, during the Sept. 17-19 parliamentary election.

Such a statement would likely have been unheard of during the Soviet era, when the communist government followed a policy of state atheism.

But in the post-Soviet years — particularly in the past decade of President Vladimir Putin’s rule — the government has forged links with the Russian Orthodox Church.

  • “Put Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and the Moral Code of the Builder of Communism next to each other, and you will just gasp,” Gennady Zyuganov said Thursday in a radio interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid.”

Maybe this loony will gasp at this.

“When the era of Communist rule began in Russia in 1917, religion was seen as a hindrance to a thriving socialist society. As Karl Marx, co-author of the The Communist Manifesto, declared, “Communism begins where atheism begins.”

Joseph Stalin, as the second leader of the Soviet Union, tried to enforce militant atheism on the republic. The new “socialist man,” Stalin argued, was an atheist one, free of the religious chains that had helped to bind him to class oppression. From 1928 until World War II, when some restrictions were relaxed, the totalitarian dictator shuttered churches, synagogues and mosques and ordered the killing and imprisonment of thousands of religious leaders in an effort to eliminate even the concept of God.”

    • The modern day Marxists AND Atheists both try to claim the philosophy of Jesus but they continue to fail. Funny its the same people that want to modernize the Constitution want a strict conservative reading of the Bible…?

  • Disgusting! Jesus was the first moderate feminist. Although the original Bible is very conservative, it was later subject to political modifications which do not necessarily reflect the words of Jesus Christ, which caused the Protestant Church to emerge.

    • The bible has not been changed, but the bible did result in the emergence of the protestant movement as the Roman Catholic Church had abandoned the bible as the final authority for doctrine and behavior. The Eastern Orthodox fell into the same trap.
