The French retail chain Auchan (“Auchan”) in January-June 2021 closed 17 of its stores in Russia, RBC reports, referring to the reporting of Elo Group (previously called Auchan Holding).
At the same time, Auchan opened 28 new stores in Western Europe, and three new points in each country in Romania and Ukraine, TASS notes , also referring to the company’s statements.
During the year – from June 2020 to June 2021 – the company closed 36 stores in Russia. If a year ago there were 274 of them, now there are 238. At the same time, the number of supermarkets decreased by 32.5% – from 212 to 143, but many stores could be converted into Auchan City hypermarkets.
As explained by the general director of “Auchan Retail Russia” Ivan Martinovich, the closure of 17 supermarkets in 2021 was due to their unsatisfactory results. However, the company opened one supermarket in Dedovsk in June.RBK
Auchan Retail has been operating in Russia since 2002. The revenue of “Auchan” in Russia under RAS, as noted by RBC, has been declining for five years in a row. At the end of 2020, the company for the first time in five years showed a net loss of 4.8 billion rubles.
