In the Odessa region, an environmental inspector caught extorting a bribe was sentenced to a fine

The Belyaevsky District Court of the Odessa Region sentenced the former state environmental protection inspector of the regional environmental inspection Sergei Karlovts to a fine of 17 thousand hryvnyas, who was accused of extortion and receiving illegal profit.

The official was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Among other things, he was deprived of the right to hold positions in government bodies for two years.

According to the prosecution, the inspector extorted money from an entrepreneur who was engaged in fishing in the Khadzhibey estuary and selling it, without having the relevant documents. Karlovets demanded to pay him 10 thousand UAH per month (200-250 UAH for one outlet and 2000 UAH for one boat). He was detained on September 9, 2016 in the village of Mayaki at the time of receiving part of the “tribute”.

In court, Karlovets did not admit his guilt. According to him, he met with the aforementioned businessman to obtain operational information.

The court, however, sided with the prosecutor’s office and passed a guilty verdict.

Interestingly, after the arrest, Sergei Karlovets continued to work in the State Ecological Inspectorate. In 2019, the official won the competition for the position of deputy head of the department of state environmental supervision (control) of fauna and biological resources – state inspector for environmental protection of the Kherson region. Now he is the head of this department.

        • Two years and more than 10,600 posts. I’d say we are quite the news source and archival information site. But still two more months before we have a grand total of $100 in ad revenue. LOL. Perhaps we should advertise, I don’t know. I was thinking about adding a PayPal link for a tip jar, what do you think?
We remember 7 years ago there was very little Ukrainian news in English and even now some of the websites are dropping off. The disinformation from the Kremlin in English isn’t going anywhere so we have to keep it up too. Also, the average visitor reads 3.5 articles per visit, which I think is remarkable.

      • I was out celebrating last night with my wife in our local restaurant. We all know Americans love Mom’s apple pie, this is the Ukrainian version of apple pie, and it was bloody good too. 😃

        • Not much better on God’s green earth than hot apple pie with cinnamon and vanilla ice cream :))
The Ukrainian version looks great too but what is the red sauce? Cinnamon? Interesting you described it as “bloody” and I know you Englanders say that a lot but in this case it looks bloody too, lol……..

          • The sauce tasted like raspberry, and the ice cream was on top of a piece of white meringue. If something is good in England, bloody good is even better. 🤣
