For the first time a woman was appointed to the general position in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran signed an order on the appointment of Colonel of the Medical Service Tatiana Ostaschenko to the post of Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.

“For the first time, a woman has headed one of the commands in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We are gradually moving towards building a new model of armed forces. Thanks to the reform of the army in accordance with the principles and approaches of NATO, women now have the opportunity to do military service on an equal footing with men, ”said Minister Taran.

He added that now in the ranks of the army it is already becoming commonplace when women get positions that were previously held exclusively by men.

“A woman commander, a tanker, a sniper, a scout, a pilot, an artilleryman is already commonplace. In command positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, commanders of companies, platoons and mortar batteries, there are about a hundred female military personnel. Now, a woman has taken the general’s post of commander and it is likely that in the near future the first woman will appear in the Armed Forces – a “brigadier general,” noted Andrei Taran.

According to him, now women make up almost a quarter of the total number of the Armed Forces.

Note that Tatiana Ostashchenko, colonel of the medical service. Received an operational-tactical level of military education in 2020, and also underwent training in a number of courses of the armies of the NATO states.
