NABU and SAP ask the court to arrest Yanukovych and his son

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office are asking the court to arrest ex-President Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr Yanukovych.
According to the NABU press service, the prosecution sent a request to the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court today to take precautionary measures in the form of detention.
The agency reminded that Yanukovych is a suspect in the case of seizing the residence of “Mezhyhirya” by abusing his official position.
The actions of the ex-president are qualified under Part 5 of Art. 191 (seizure of property through abuse of office), Part 3 of Art. 209) (legalization (laundering) of proceeds from crime) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, his son – under Part 5 of Article 27 (assistance), Part 5 of Art. 191, part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code.
It is noted that NABU has been investigating the case since December 2019, the materials of the criminal proceedings number more than 1.5 thousand volumes.
The case of “Mezhyhirya”
In January 2021, the WACS Appeals Chamber denied the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office detention of Yanukovych in absentia in the case of taking over Mezhyhirya.
The property of the Mezhyhirya state residence in the Vyshhorod district of the Kyiv region, where Yanukovych lived from 2010 to 2014, was arrested by the Pechersk District Court in July 2015.
In early July 2018, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv transferred Mezhyhirya to the National Agency for Detection, Investigation and Management of Assets Obtained from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA).
