Ukraine and Turkey have signed a framework agreement on the construction of two corvettes
Ukraine has signed a framework agreement with Turkey on the construction of two Ada-class corvettes for the needs of the Ukrainian Navy.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine signed a contract for the construction of an unspecified number of corvettes with Turkish companies in December 2020.
UAH 3.8 billion has been earmarked to finance the project in 2021 .
“A framework agreement has been signed, preparatory work is underway to begin construction,” Oleksandr Haman, Consul General of Ukraine in Istanbul, told DOM TV.
The information he voiced about the construction preparation contradicts the information voiced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the celebrations dedicated to the day of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on July 4, 2021, which has already laid the corvette corps for the national fleet.
This information was also voiced by the Commander of the Ukrainian Navy Oleksiy Neizhpapa in his greeting.
It is known that the Turkish side chose the plant “Ocean” in Nikolaev as the Ukrainian contractor , however many technical details remain unknown, as, for example, the Ministry of Defense as of February, 2021 didn’t choose the weapon for the ADA corvette.
The Ministry of Defense plans to install a naval version of the Soviet Mi-2 helicopter on the modern corvette, which has not yet been created, but is planned to be developed at the Motor Sich enterprise.
