The Air Force is ready to order the development of Ukrainian medium-range and long-range SAMs
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is processing the preliminary requirements and is ready to order the development of Ukrainian medium-range and long-range SAMs.
The relevant information was made public by the Chief of Anti-Aircraft Missile Forces, Colonel Borys Genov, during the congratulations of servicemen on the Day of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In his address, Borys Genov, in particular, reported on the current state of the air defense forces and future development plans.
Thus, he reminded that in connection with the further obsolescence of Soviet air defense systems, which are in service with the Armed Forces, the issue of purchasing anti-aircraft missile systems from Western partners is currently being considered.
At the same time, the Armed Forces are interested in the construction of Ukrainian complexes, and work on this topic is already underway and they hope for success not only in Ukraine.
“These works have already started. Preliminary projects have been carried out and the issue of conducting research and development works is currently being carried out. Our companies already, today, have experience with foreign customers. This was shown by the exhibition, which was held in the city of Kyiv (we are talking about Weapons and Security-2021 ″), – said the head of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Armed Forces.
In turn, during the demonstration of this greeting in the video from the press service of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine footage with promising medium-range complexes SD-300 from CB “LUCH” and universal long-range anti-aircraft missile system from CB “Southern” – “Kilchen” .
It will be recalled that a promising complex from the State Enterprise Kyiv Design Bureau LUCH is designed to hit at a range of up to 100 km of any aerodynamic and ballistic targets (and in some cases ground or surface), was demonstrated for the first time (in the form of a launcher) at the International Exhibition “Weapons and Security-2021” in June this year.
At the same time, according to the General Designer – General Director of DKKB “LUCH” Oleg Korostelev, the development of such SAM requires only two years, after which the complex will begin state tests. And to finance this development requires funding of about $ 40 million.
In turn, the concept of the long-range anti-aircraft missile system “Kilchen” presented by the Pivdenne Design Bureau, presented in April this year, has a planned range of up to 280 km.
According to the developers, the creation of the latest anti-aircraft missile system “Kilchen” and its development is “about a quarter or a third of the cost of the Patriot complex.”
