Zakharova wrote a post about “suppression of freedom of speech” in Ukraine
According to her, “the world has not waited for a serious analysis of the disgrace” allegedly taking place in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that there was a “blatant practice of suppressing freedom of speech” in Ukraine.
With this text, she reacted to the visit of the OSCE Special Representative on Freedom of Speech Maria Theresa Ribeiro to Ukraine . She published the post on her social networks.
She noted that ” serious analysis outrages ” that allegedly take place in Ukraine, ” the world did not wait .”
Zakharova reminded about the closure of TV channels of Vladimir Putin’s godfather Viktor Medvedchuk – “112 Ukraine”, NewsOne and ZIK. And also about blocking a number of Russian propaganda TV channels and sites.
She also wrote that ” searches in the offices of offices and criminal prosecution of journalists on trumped-up grounds have become commonplace .”
” Perhaps we should articulate more clearly the inadmissibility of such a policy? It is not enough to simply “wish success” in finding “the right methods to combat misinformation.” We need to respond in a timely, complete and open manner to the blatant practice of suppressing freedom of speech , “she wrote.
Following the visit, the OSCE representative stated Ukraine’s commitment to democratic values. Zakharova also criticized these words.
It will be recalled that in February 2021, the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions against Taras Kozak, which provide for the closure of 112 Ukrainy, ZIK and NewsOne channels.
Also in February 2021, Ukraine imposed sanctions against the People’s Deputy from “OPZZH” Viktor Medvedchuk, his wife Oksana Marchenko, and Kozak’s civilian wife Natalia Lavreniuk. Sanctions have been imposed through terrorist financing.
On May 11, Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova signed suspicions against Viktor Medvedchuk and Taras Kozak, MPs from the Opposition Platform For Life. The exact whereabouts of Kozak are currently unknown, but according to Medvedchuk, his fellow party member is in Belarus “in treatment.”
The Security Service of Ukraine has received permission to detain Taras Kozak, he is wanted.
Medvedchuk and Kozak are suspected of treason and attempted looting of national resources in the Ukrainian Crimea, which was temporarily occupied by Russia.
One of the episodes of suspicion concerns a project against Ukraine’s information security called Promin. The second episode concerns the looting of national resources in the Sea of Azov. The third episode concerns the events of August 2020, when Medvedchuk allegedly sent Kozak secret information about the location, personnel and combat training of a hidden military unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the court decision, Medvedchuk will be under house arrest until September 7, 2021. The people’s deputy is obliged to wear an electronic bracelet.
