The first names of the oligarchs may be announced at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council on Friday, July 16.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov told reporters, answering questions about whether the first 13 names of oligarchs will be announced, which Danilov said earlier.

“Let’s wait for the meeting on Friday, and I think you will hear some news about it,” Danilov said.

Law on oligarchs

On July 1, the Verkhovna Rada passed in first reading a bill on oligarchs proposed by the president.

The draft law, among other things, provides for the creation of a register of oligarchs.

According to the bill, the decision to recognize a person as having significant economic or political influence in public life (oligarch) is made by the National Security and Defense Council on the basis of a proposal from the government, a member of the National Security and Defense Council, the National Bank, the Security Service or the Antimonopoly Committee.
