EU should pay money to Belarus for air, Russian Academy of Sciences president says

Alexander Sergeev, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has said that the EU should pay Belarus because the Belarusian forests clean the polluted air, BelTA reports.

The head of the Russian Academy of Sciences made the statement during a meeting of the VIII Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia.

“If you look at the wind rose in Belarus with a prevailing displacement of atmospheric masses from the west and south at hundreds of kilometers per day, it’s hard to doubt that the republic cleans the atmosphere of greenhouse gases, coming from the industrial zones of Central and Western Europe, with its forests. But this fact needs to be clearly proved scientifically in order to accept political and economic conclusions,” stressed Sergeev.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Vladimir Putin also addressed the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. Lukashenka said that Belarus is exposed to “blatant economic and political pressure” from the West. And Putin expressed his support for Lukashenka and promised further assistance. Lukashenka thanked him for the support and suggested developing a long-term integration strategy for the Union State until 2030.

No doubt the wind coming from the East carries the fragrant smell of roses.
