“We would be one people, in Moscow there would be hryvnia, and a yellow-blue flag would fly over the State Duma.” Zelensky on the unity of Ukrainians and Russians
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy entered into an absentee polemic with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On June 30, the Russian president said on a straight line that Russians and Ukrainians are one people.
Zelensky disagreed with this statement in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine. “Let’s finally dot the i’s. We are definitely not one people. Yes, we have a lot in common. We have a common part of history, memory, neighborhood, relatives, a common victory over fascism and common tragedies, ”the President of Ukraine said.
If Ukrainians and Russians were one people, in Moscow, most likely, hryvnias would circulate, and a yellow-blue flag would fly over the State Duma.
The President of Ukraine also noted that “it is impossible to simultaneously talk about ‘one people’ and openly seize our territories and continue the massacre in Donbass. It is obvious”.
At the same time, Zelensky believes, “it is possible that there will be something in common in the future, if it is not too late to stop the total division between the countries.”
