The United States launched an air strike on targets of pro-Iranian militia groups on the Iraqi-Syrian border.

This was reported on its website by the US Department of Defense .

Pengaton’s statement said that the instruction was given by the President of the United States Joe Biden.

“This evening, the US military launched high-precision defensive air strikes on targets used by Iranian-backed rebel groups in the Iraqi-Syrian border region. These targets were chosen because these targets are used by Iranian-backed militias that carry out drone attacks on US personnel and facilities in Iraq, “the statement said.

According to the Pentagon, the attacks were carried out on facilities and weapons depots in two places in Syria and one – in Iraq: these facilities were used by several groups of militants supported by Iran.

The agency said it was done to address the threat and in response to a series of attacks targeting the United States in Iraq.

“President Biden has made it clear that he will act to protect US personnel. Given a series of attacks by Iranian-backed groups aimed at US interests in Iraq, the president has ordered further military action to prevent and deter such attacks,” the spokesman said.
