Rinat Akhmetov’s foundation summed up the results of 15 years of work and told about plans for the future
The reporting event of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation took place on June 23 in Kyiv. Ukraine’s largest and most famous charity celebrated its 15th anniversary last year, but was only now able to sum up its work over the coronavirus pandemic. It is the fight against COVID-19 that has become a priority for the Foundation recently. During the event, they talked about this work, as well as large-scale projects in the field of culture and education, humanitarian aid and the fight against orphanhood. The main result of the Foundation’s work was announced – in 15 years it has helped 5 million people to survive. Another 6 million people covered the Foundation’s digital projects.
“Since 2005, the Foundation, by the personal decision of the Founder – Rinat Akhmetov, has been implementing national-level projects aimed at helping people and combating social problems. Using its achievements and world experience of charity, the Foundation creates opportunities for the whole society to become better and live better. For the sake of the future, “said Natalia Yemchenko, a member of the Foundation’s Supervisory Board.
Rinat Akhmetov’s Humanitarian Headquarters remains the Foundation’s largest program to date. It was opened in the first days of the armed conflict in Donbass and helped civilians survive every day. Evacuation, resettlement, medicines and food. People living in the gray area received everything they needed most from Rinat Akhmetov. This helped 3.5 million civilians survive. Residents of more than 750 settlements on both sides of the demarcation line received more than 130,000 tons of food. 6700 trucks were needed for their delivery. According to a study by the British company Envoy Partnership, the social value created by the Fund’s food aid has exceeded $ 1 billion.
Another important activity of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation is helping children. It covers 1.4 million people. Innovative implants for children with hearing problems and heart defects, medicines for seriously ill children of Donbass, rehabilitation of wounded children, complex operations. The foundation provided assistance to those who really needed it. And the program “Rinat Akhmetov – For children. No to orphanhood! ” formed a culture of national adoption in Ukraine. Thanks to the portal of the same name, almost 10,000 orphans have found loving parents.
Throughout the years of its work, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has been implementing medical projects on a national scale. The Foundation was the first in the country to launch a program to help cancer patients “Curable Cancer.” The purpose of the program is to create conditions for the effective work of the state oncology service and to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. Thanks to the program, 15 units of state-of-the-art equipment were transferred to hospitals and best practices in cancer treatment were introduced. A TB prevention program was also implemented to improve access to high-quality disease diagnosis and treatment services for all segments of the population.
In 2019, the Foundation donated 200 state-of-the-art ambulances to Ukrainian doctors. Physicians in all regions of the country received 64 SUVs, 22 neonatal cars and 114 “resuscitation on wheels”. Thanks to the “200 ambulances for Ukraine” project, more than 400,000 people received assistance. This is the largest private charity project in the field of emergency medicine in 30 years of independence.
Rinat Akhmetov was the first to help the country in the fight against the coronavirus. Back in February 2020, more than 300 million hryvnias were allocated for these purposes. Thanks to the project “Fight against COVID-19 in Ukraine”, more than 500 state support hospitals received 207 ventilators, 337 thousand rapid tests, more than 200 thousand personal protective equipment and consumables, 155 oxygen concentrators. This is the largest contribution of one philanthropist to the state medicine of Ukraine since the independence of our country.

A great desire not to let anyone be left alone with trouble. If in your heart you want to help, if you can’t get past someone else’s trouble, then charity is your way and your vocation. ”
