Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to destroy an independent Ukrainian state.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk made the relevant statement in an interview with the .loyal magazine, answering a question about the Russian leader’s goals.

The translation of the interview has been posted by the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany.

“[Putin’s] plan remains to destroy Ukraine as an independent state. This is his insane goal. To Putin, the pro-Western and democratic development of my Motherland is like an eyesore since it threatens his totalitarian and corrupt regime,” the ambassador said.

According to Melnyk, the Ukrainian Army is significantly inferior to the Russian one in many aspects, both in numbers and quality. However, Putin underestimated Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and “broke his teeth on it.”

The envoy stressed Ukraine may only achieve security when it becomes a member of a defensive military alliance such as NATO.

In the interview, Melnyk also said the restoration of Ukraine’s nuclear status was not on the agenda in Kyiv so far. However, the majority of the population now views Ukraine’s abandonment of its nuclear arsenal as a fatal mistake.

Earlier, in April, Melnyk called on the West to take Ukraine into NATO as soon as possible, otherwise Kyiv will have to consider restoring its nuclear status.

Also, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the signing with the United States and the European Union of Plan B, which would provide military security guarantees until the country joined NATO, and cover the issue of both restoring territorial integrity and ensuring energy security of Ukraine.

  • “To Putin, the pro-Western and democratic development of my Motherland is like an eyesore since it threatens his totalitarian and corrupt regime,” the ambassador said.”
That’s about the size of it. It should be a mainstream view, but due to the preponderance of putler grovellers and integrity-free ‘leaders’ it isn’t.

  • Not just Putin. This has been happening since 1709 when the Russification of Ukraine started. Many leaders of the scum nation have tried to destroy Ukraine with various methods, including relocation, genocide, invasion and terrorism. Ukraine is still here, despite the efforts of the latest Muscovy terrorist hellbent on destroying Ukraine.

    • And unfortunately it will probably never stop. Moskovia simply cannot accept the fact that it was born of Kyivan Rus, that’s why they have tried for centuries TO CLAIM the heritage of Kyivan Rus and destroy the history. The history of Kyiv is a slap in the face of the Kremlin every morning when they wake. Putin knows he can’t simply take Kyiv so he has to try to get a majority of Moskali in Ukraine.

I fully concur. But, what do the gutter rat and his assgivers think now? It’s been seven years since they started the war in Donbas and countless billions and mafiosi lives have been sacrificed and independent Ukraine still exists. And this, no thanks to the unprincipled, contemptible European cowards.

    • As Halya Coynash states in her moving article about the terrible plight of Vladislav Yesypenko, “Russia has no regard for human life”. Neither for its victims or its own people. I remember as a child reading a children’s book written by a brilliant writer: Frank Richards, who liked to insert his political opinions from time to time. He wrote : “Czarism, communism under the Bolsheviks; Russia changes its system of government occasionally, but essentially everything remains the same. Especially with regard to the disregard of human life”.
To which we could add: ‘and now fascism under fuhrer pootler; nothing else has changed’.

      • When it came to the communists, Tsarist Russia was quite weak. A strong regime would have executed Stalin, and done the same with Lenin while he was still in Russia. None of the revolutionaries should have been allowed to live. It was a fatal mistake.

That’s true. For some; once a trash nation, always a trash nation.
