Shoigu announced the creation of 20 new military formations in the west of Russia in response to NATO actions

By the end of 2021, the Russian Ministry of Defense will form about 20 new formations and military units in the Western Military District. This was stated by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, reports TASS.

He noted that this will be a response to the activity of NATO countries, which are increasing the intensity of strategic aviation flights and the presence of warships at the Russian borders.

According  to Shoigu, the frequency of flights of strategic bombers of the US Air Force in Europe has increased 14 times over the past seven years. The number of military exercises in recent years has grown by one and a half times.

The actions of our Western colleagues destroy the security system in the world and force us to take adequate countermeasures. We are constantly improving the combat composition of our troops. By the end of the year, about 20 formations and military units will be formed in the Western Military District.

At the end of March, against the background of the escalation of the conflict in Donbass, Russia increased its military presence near the borders of Ukraine. Kiev called it “muscle flexing”, Moscow – military exercises. At the end of April, Sergei Shoigu announced the return of troops from exercises in southern Russia to their places of permanent deployment.
