The State Duma announced plans to issue almost half a million passports of Russian citizens in Donbass by the end of 2021
The number of residents of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, who received Russian citizenship in a simplified manner, by the end of 2021 may increase by almost 500 thousand people. This was announced in an interview with TASS by Viktor Vodolatsky, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots.
“Today, 538 thousand people are citizens of the Russian Federation living in the territory of Donbass,” Vodolatsky said. “According to the forecasts that exist today, and according to the statements that exist today, by the end of this year, up to 1 million residents of Donbass will become citizens of the Russian Federation.”
Interest in Russian citizenship, according to Vodolatsky, is growing after statements that “Ukraine will restore order in the southeast by force.”
