Putin says ready to meet with Zelensky in Moscow

MOSCOW, 22 April (BelTA) – We are ready to welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists during the meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Moscow on 22 April, BelTA has learned.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky suggested his Russian counterpart that they hold talks in Donbass to discuss settling the conflict in that region.

“As for the suggestion of the Ukrainian authorities and Volodymyr Zelensky, I would like to point out that the Ukrainian authorities have recently taken many steps that are detrimental to the Ukrainian-Russian relations,” Vladimir Putin said. According to him, this directly concerns several problems in the bilateral relations, the attitude of the Ukrainian authorities to the Russian Orthodox Church and actual attempts to destroy it as well as their treatment of the Russian language, Russian-speaking Ukrainian citizens, and Russian citizens who live in Ukraine. “We have seen a lot of steps meant to damage these relations, regrettably,” the Russian president noted. “However, if Volodymyr Zelensky wants to start mending these relations, we will only welcome it,” he added.

“There is a logical question: what do we want to discuss at this meeting? If it is going to be about the problems in Donbass, the Ukrainian authorities should meet with the leadership of the Luhansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic first and only then discuss these problems with third countries, such as Russia,” Vladimir Putin pointed out.

  • Same old BS spewing out of Putin’s mouth. I hope Zelensky tells Putin he made an offer to meet in Donbas, take it or leave it.

    • It sounds to me like Putin has decided to recognize the occupied territories in Donbas. Yes, he should challenge the shirtless imp to a visit of the territory he destroyed and see what he plans to try and annex this time. Then a Ukrainian sniper can make the decision for him.

      • I recognise the occupied territories too. Russified shitholes, destroyed beyond recognition. Do Ukraine really need this shithole, that will drain Ukraine’s economy, and readmit thousands of Ukrainians with Russian passports, stealing Ukrainian air? It’s a tough call to make.

Terrible thing to say but my opinion has been that the loser of this conflict gets Donbas.

          • Stanley, Crimea and Donbas belong to Ukraine. They must return and Russia must pay full reparations.

            • Getting the occupied territories back is essential, but not what comes with them. The population has been bombarded with Russian propaganda and hatred for 7 years. Take these territories back, but anyone with a Russian passport goes to Russia.

  • Zelensky must not go to Moscow and he must also call Putin a liar when it comes to him being a third party. Russian troops are the only reason Ukraine is not to the recognized border in the Donbas. Civilians that mobilized themselves crushed the so called LNR and DNR “troops.” Russian troops are still there as are Putin’s mercenaries.
