Donbas negotiations fail as Russia amasses 150,000 troops on Ukrainian border

Negotiations in the “Normandy format” on the situation in southeastern Ukraine ended inconclusively, Interfax, Kommersant and RIA Novosti reported, citing a source in the Russian delegation.

The three-hour video conference, which was attended by advisers to the presidents of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany, failed to reach any agreements on the Donbas amid the ongoing transfer of Russian troops to the borders.

“At the initiative of the Russian side, the issues related to the ceasefire were discussed in the first place, and other topics could not be started,” the source told Interfax.

Moscow has laid responsibility for the failure of the negotiations on all but itself. “Specific proposals of the Russian Federation on the mechanism to prevent the escalation of shootings, as well as ways to bring to justice the perpetrators were obstructed by Ukraine. Instead of concrete decisions, the representatives of Germany and France proposed an unaddressed declarative political statement of commitment to the ceasefire, in the style of “we are for all the good and against all the bad,” the source said.

He added that the positions of France, Germany and Ukraine “demonstrate a clear desire to imitate and further delay the negotiation process even at the cost of casualties and destruction on both front lines.”

Hours before the meeting, the EU’s head of diplomacy, Josep Borrell, announced that Russia continues deployment of its troops near Ukraine’s borders and Crimea, which he said had reached “unprecedented” levels.

The EU has information that Russia has amassed more than 150,000 soldiers in the region, Borrell said.

“The threat of escalation is obvious,” he said.

According to Janes, Russia has moved tanks, BMP armored personnel carriers, long-range artillery, BM-27 Hurricane multiple rocket launchers, as well as heavy flame-throwing systems to TOS-1 Solntsepek to the border with Ukraine. Solntsepek systems, using missiles with a special thermobaric mixture, are capable of literally igniting the air with one volley burning the territory equal to the area of eight soccer fields.

The 74th and 35th Motorized Brigades, the 120th Artillery Brigade and the 6th Tank Regiment have been deployed close to the border with Ukraine. In early April, a convoy of Iskander missile systems of the 119th Missile Brigade of the Central Military District was spotted near the village of Novaya Usman in the Voronezh region.

In addition to infantry and artillery, Russian deployed four Project 775 (NATO classification – Ropucha) large landing ships to the Black Sea.

They were joined by 15 ships of the Caspian flotilla. Sniper units are deployed along the entire eastern border of Ukraine, a source in the Ukrainian armed forces told the the British newspaper Mirror.

Russia has deployed two armies and three Airborne divisions to its western borders, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu said on April 13. He added that this was done in response to threats from NATO.

Normally when a country is under threat from an external force, it deploys it’s troops where the threat is coming from. Seeing that the closest Russian border with a NATO country is 1500km away, I find your excuse pretty pathetic. If there was a threat from NATO, the screaming and whining would be non stop. No Shoygu, you are provoking and intimidating a weaker opponent, which is normal for Russians, just because Shorty the shithead fucked up when he annexed Crimea.

    • Just arrive as a tourist and go to any recruitment centre. The problem is that you will need to have fluent Ukrainian and/or Russian.

      • Maybe i will set up my own volunteer battalion, Mike’s Tigers. 😀 I may ask Pravy Sektor for help in this regard. I already have a ticket to Odesa, valid for six months. I’m neither drunk nor kidding. If the worst case scenario happens, i will be there!

      • Why? All you have to do is say, “Deh Russkis?” and “Smert Moskalam!”

        • There are many volunteers from Georgia and Turkic people including Tatars and other Russian speaking peoples. As far as I know, the Tatar and Georgian battalions have been incorporated in the regular Ukrainian army? The enemy has got some American and European volunteers : an evil mix of communists and nazis. But they all are Russian speakers.
I don’t see how it is possible to fight for Ukraine without a command of Ukrainian or Russian. Surely there could be dangerous communications problems in the heat of battle if you are unable to understand orders or receive radio coms?
There might be a role for a lone operator such as a sniper maybe? But again it’s risky without the lingo.
It appears that Zel has offered talks with putler inside Donbas. It looks like the beginning of a surrender to me.
Whilst I don’t want any more Ukrainian blood spilt for these filthy terrorists, capitulation to them is not acceptable either.

          • I don’t know. Anything could happen. I think Zelenski is challenging the shirtless psycho to see what he has done out in the open, which he is too much of coward to do. Putler got out-machoed.
What else can Zelensky do at this point? He’s spoken with everyone and told everyone that the invasion is coming. Its all on Putler.

            • He’s doing the very best he can with a very bad hand. Putler holds the aces. Where the fuck is Biden?
I would recommend a couple of things to Zel: 1/ take advice from Poro and 2/ ask Poland and Britain to provide air support.

              • We will know what will happen when Putler offloads the tanks from the Black Sea. NATO will know and we will see what their orders are. Everything is in NATO’s hands right now.

                • At this time, Biden, or Blinken need to politely but firmly inform Russia that its economy will be severely damaged and its invasion forces will definitely be attacked if they attempt a limited or full invasion. They may have already done so. Who knows?

            • At the bottom of veth’s latest post about ‘64% of Ukrainians stand for accession to Nato’ are several links from WordPress, including this one : ‘The Upcoming war in Ukraine’. The writer is one ‘Evan Richards’, a poisonous little maggot from something called Challenge Magazine. It turns out that he is from the ‘YCL’s Yorkshire district’, which turns out to be The Young Communist League. It is an exceptionally evil article.
Can you get WP to stop adding links to this verminous filth to the bottom of UT articles?

                • The nazi rodent enjoys universal support from communists everywhere. Which suggests several things: communism is an imperial concept, it is little or no different from fascism, the putler regime is still a communist one; like communist China, it permits a certain amount of capitalism, but at its core it’s an evil communist construct.
Communism never went away in Russia and of course the communist party there is still powerful. It staunchly supports the fake party United Russia.
