Kyiv calls on NATO to conduct joint military exercises and patrols of Ukrainian airspace amid escalation in Donbas

Ukraine has invited NATO to conduct joint military exercises and patrols of Ukrainian airspace, stated the deputy head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Roman Mashovets, at a meeting with the Head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine, Alexander Vinnikov.
According to the press service of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, the parties, discussed escalation of the situation in the Donbas and possible ways of joint response to the buildup of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border.
Mashovets noted that the joint exercises of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with NATO and, possibly, joint air patrols with NATO aircraft in Ukrainian airspace, will help stabilize the security situation in the region.
The deputy head of the Presidential Office also stressed the importance of the political response from the NATO leadership to such actions of Russia.
In his turn, Vinnikov expressed condolences for the losses suffered by Ukraine in recent weeks in the Donbas. He also said that all information about the security situation in eastern Ukraine and on the border with Russia will be passed on to NATO headquarters in Brussels.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ruslan Khomchak, said that Russia is increasing the number of its troops near the border with Ukraine.
Due to the buildup of Russian troops near Donbas, the U.S. European Command has raised the watch level to the maximum (“potential inevitable crisis”).
Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russia is preparing to send troops to Ukraine.

Exercises and patrols are just for show. What is needed is a permanent US base somewhere along the Black Sea. There already is one in Ochakiv; it needs to be rapidly expanded. But right now, Ukraine needs air power. Just do it Joe.

I agree, send a squadron of F16s to Kyiv, they can be in Donbas in 30 minutes.

Well you know how the bureaucracy works, they have to schedule a meeting to receive the briefing and they have to schedule it between meetings, lunches and football matches. It can’t be late afternoon in case they have tuna for lunch. It also has to have the right temperature of tea so the news won’t upset their fragile stomachs.
Then they have to schedule a follow up meeting to digest the differences between the briefings and schedule a task force to assess the reaction of all 26 governments and then have another briefing which will lead to a press conference….
Meanwhile, Putin makes a decision in 6 seconds……….

I’m surprised NATO Euro HQ is in a country crawling with Russian spies. It’s time they moved it to the UK, and away from the useless EU.

Or moved it to Simferopol…

Ukraine can forget this idea. Only a small handful of NATO countries could be trusted to do this. The biggest majority are too lily-livered and revere the killer dwarf too much to “provoke” him.

A good idea. B-52’s and F-35’s should be securing Ukrainian controlled airspace permanently. That is fully backed by the Budapest Memorandum after Moscow violated the treaty.
